The 90-Second Decision Every Branch Manager Is Losing Without Knowing It

It happens on a phone, usually at night, and it takes about ninety seconds. A producing loan officer opens LinkedIn, scrolls a branch manager's profile, and quietly decides whether this is a leader worth calling back.

That decision gets made before a single word of the actual recruiting pitch is ever read. Most leaders don't know the contest is happening. Which means most of them are losing it without ever knowing there was a scoreboard.

What the 90 Seconds Actually Contains

It's not a resume audit. Nobody is comparing production numbers in ninety seconds on a phone. It's a feel-based read: does this person look like they're building something, or just occupying a title?

A headline that says only "Branch Manager at [Company]" reads as occupying a title. So does a quiet profile with nothing recent, nothing personal, nothing that shows what this leader actually does for the people on their team.

The LO isn't being unfair here. They're doing what any of us do when sizing up a stranger: looking for the fastest honest signal available, and trusting it more than they probably should. In the absence of anything else, the profile becomes the whole case.

Why This Costs More Than It Looks Like It Costs

The visible cost is a lower reply rate. The real cost runs deeper than that.

A leader losing the ninety-second test isn't just losing individual conversations. They're losing them at the exact moment a competitor with a stronger presence is winning them, and that gap widens every quarter it goes unaddressed. Quietly, then all at once.

What Passes the Evaluation

It isn't volume. Posting every day with nothing to say doesn't pass any better than posting nothing at all.

What passes is specificity. A clear sense of what you've actually built, who you've developed, and what someone's life looks like on your team compared to anywhere else.

That's a positioning question before it's a content question. Most leaders try to fix this by posting more, without first deciding what those ninety seconds should say, and end up with more noise that still says nothing real.

The window is open right now, for every leader with a LinkedIn profile and a recruiting goal. The only real question is what it's finding when someone looks.
